It's Saturday and a Little Catch Up

Good morning all,  We have sunshine and warm weather today-so hoping we can get out and bring in some firewood.

We have ice coming in on Monday, so would like to get a little more wood in.

I am still "under the weather"  fighting congestion, sinus, and now larengitis.  I quit taking my herbal teas and tincture for a few days and today I am starting back on them. I don't have a fever, but I do feel really run down, so am taking it easy-as best I can. lol  I do have a bottle of oil of oregano capsules that I may start to take this coming week, last time I used it it made me really sick, so have been hesitant to try it again-I have learned must have food with it-so I will take it after supper if I do decide to take it.

I am not one to get "colds" like this, and we did get our flu shots and pneumonia shots earlier, so thinking I got this from hubby when he was so sick. He is doing pretty good now.

I made me an awesome pie for Thanksgiving made with butternut squash that I loved better than the standard pumpkin pie. To make the crust gluten free I made an english walnut crust with a little gf flour, ground walnuts and coconut oil-turned out really good. I also made gluten free butternut squash dinner rolls that I was really pleased with too.
I made Larry an apple-fresh cranberry pie, and we love my homemade cranberry relish. This year I used hand harvested cranberries from northern Wisconsin that my friend brought me, added in blueberries, orange zest and some mandarin oranges. My turkey was good but not awesome this year.

I have not worked on any of my crafts for awhile now-so ya know I am not my "old self" at the moment.  I need to get my loom threaded and ready to weave, and I always have other things in the works as well. hoping soon

Just a reminder for all you shoppers-Today is support small business day-so please shop at your local small businness's or support small business online too.

Happy Weekend!

Surprise Sir John and His Family Just Stopped By (no photos yet)

It has been gloomy here, hubby and I are both fighting off pneumonia (Larry) and bad sinus (me), plus some family stuff I am not happy about-so I really  needed something to brighten my day

I look out the window while washing up some kitchen dishes-and wow could not believe my eyes-Sir John & Izzy and their 3 offspring, are hanging out by the feeder and stump just outside the bay window. How cool is that??

We have not seen them since mid summer, when the youngsters were almost full grown but still no feathers. We really figured they had flown off for the winter by now. Many Canada Geese do over winter here though.

They went right to the spots where I put out the cracked corn-and there was none out there do to deer hunting season. So I quick grabbed some shoes, and went out to scatter some corn. I showed Sir John that I had corn so they would stick around-put it around the stump while they watched me, and then also put corn out back by the tree line where I also put corn. The family went back to the tree line, so I couldn't get a photo.
They are still here, just all sitting down now lol

How Has Everyone Been? Anyone Snowed in??

It has been quite a wintry November so far for allot of us.

We did end up with 3- 4 inches of snow here, along with bitter cold temps, but a little warm up begins today-should reach the 40s-and wow heat wave over the weekend with near 60s but that brings lots of rain. The snow views are gorgeous here in the woods.

With Monday being very bitter with strong winds the rest of our guests from deer camp returned home a day early. The house always seems extremely quiet and empty once everyone has left. Always good times with friends and always good eats. My Friday feast was a success-and I ended up making way too much food-so my two pies mostly did not get eaten, didn't need the extra ham I cooked on the grill so that went right into the freezer. I also didn't make all the dishes I had planned as I realized it would be too much food in the end.

Larry ended up getting pretty sick, just before dark he went out to help a friend bring in his deer from the woods-and ended up with pneumonia pretty fast-it was in the low teens for tempertures. I had some left over antibiotics to put him on. I have been struggling a bit too figuring it was asthma but I think I have something else going on. So for me I have been drinking mullein and sage tea. If we are both not getting better by end of this week, then a trip to the doctor for a check up will be in order.

I splurged and bought myself a pizzelle press last week. Something I have always wanted and since I found a few gluten free versions of cannoli decided to get one. The press makes a little bit smaller cookies than I had thought, but it will work out fine. I want to make me gluten free ice cream cones too. So that will be fun to play with soon Last night while watching the Voice, I went through some of my cookbooks and found some recipes for the both of us.

It has been a stressful month for me figuring out our health care supplemental insurance. Do to the changes in the Obamacare law I lost my group insurance, our drug plan, vision, dental-everything. I spent allot of time researching plans and talking to the companies-really don't know how we are going to absorb the more than double costs-especially the drug plan-what an eye opener that was. So much for all this President's promises of being able to keep what you have. sorry for the political comments but I am very upset with him-more so than ever now that this is a reality come January 1st

So how is the weather where you live?? I see the east coast is just getting hammered with 6 feet plus of snow-that's unreal-for sure.

Those of you in the States-are you ready for the Thanksgiving holiday?? I am deciding if I want to make a turkey this year-perhaps I will make something different.

I have been doing a couple more swaps with friends here for my soap products or hand dyed fabrics-and am really enjoying that. thanks again to the both of you.

enjoy your wednesday

Good Morning

Sorry, it has been awhile again since posting, and I am also working on visiting your pages more.  Seems my spare time for the computer has been more on my facebook-reading my groups posts mostly. Such creative talent around the world-so inspiring for me. Always learning new things for my hand dyeing.

I am almost finished getting ready for deer camp beginning this friday-and we just got a call that one friend is coming in tomorrow so he can bow hunt for a week. soooo I will be hustling around this morning to get everything finished up except for scrubbing the floors. It will be a fun week ahead seeing our friends again-but I think it will be a long one too.

Is the arctic blast coming to visit you this week? Brrrrr very very wintry weather coming in here wednesday and dropping each day-snow for opening deer season. Just not ready for low teens just yet-but that's mother nature for ya.

I have also been on Pinterest a little more than usual looking for recipes that are new to me. I found a couple fudge recipes and also a pineapple souffe that will go perfectly with my ham dinner friday nite.

Hope this finds you my readers well and ready as the seasons change.
