Art Sunday George Caleb Bingham

Missouri celebrated Bingham's 200th birthday in March of this year. He was one of America's greatest regional painters, George Caleb Bingham captured the life of fur trappers and steamboats along the Missouri River, and the horrible civilian cost of the Civil War.

A self-taught painter who grew up in Missouri, Bingham witnessed the state transform from an underpopulated frontier into a thriving center of commerce and agriculture.
